Is it trending?

Is it really trending?

It has come out that Facebook's trending stories on their site may not be trending. This came out claiming that Facebook actively suppressed conservative news and stories from the trending section on the site, in favor of more liberal content. More or less it seems that Facebook has been using its position as a major social media hub and news outlet to push stories that they think are important on to its users; even if it is not what is trending by its self.

I feel that over all companies should not be allowed to do this. If we use the internet and want to see what is going on in the world than the trending section should show what is going on. There could be big news that could show a very different point of view and the defense that they have, rather than just news that I would want to see. Overall this should have been a system that would have allowed people from all back grounds to see what is popular, separate of what they think. Facebook suppressing the news from points they do not agree with I think violates their role as a distribute of news. They should not be allowed to change what is trending no more than Comcast should be allowed to slow down content they don't like.

Is the Matrix the Future?

It is getting closer than people think. We already are more connected than ever before with cellphones, internet, and our unrelenting thirst for up to the minute information. Now we are practically linked to our phones and a limitless stream of news, options, and ads. But are we getting ready to take the next step?

V.R. or virtual reality, is the next step in our social media growth. The concept is that now people will be able to plug into a head set or more to be placed into an interactive fictional world. This is a new and growing technology that tech could be used for just about anything from video games, to teaching, and even for the military. In the next few years there will be a lot of V.R. headsets that will becoming out and will eventually become mainstream  due to a falling price to buy into this new tech.
I think that this is going to be a game changer that will allow us to move even further away from the normal that our parents and grandparents grew up with. We are exposed to far more ideas, thoughts, and media than other other genration to date. With V.R. coming out in more accessable formats I think can lead to an even greater use and imersion into our unending stream of stimilui. It is possible for people that

Iran Crack Down

Iran has started cracking down on social media and people posting pictures of women that are not wearing the mandatory head covering. I think that this shows how even though social media allows for people to express them selves there is still a lot of people that want to control the internet. Going back to what we talked about in class a s the internet being a place for people to go and get away from all of the judgment, it seems that in some of these more conservative countries that there is still a sense that the government should control what people do on the internet.

I think that this clip shows no only is internet usage not equal across the world but also that the lives that we have here are very different than the lives that people in the middle est live. We have freedoms of expression that some countries are still fighting for.
